Unit Converter

Convert length, weight, temperature, speed and more. Free, no signup.

Unit conversion is needed constantly when working with international recipes, engineering specifications, scientific data, or travel planning. The metric system (metres, kilograms, Celsius) is used by most of the world, while imperial units (feet, pounds, Fahrenheit) are common in the United States and a few other countries. Temperature is a special case — it uses an offset formula rather than a simple multiplier, so converting between Celsius and Fahrenheit cannot be done by multiplying alone. This converter covers six categories: length, weight, temperature, speed, area, and volume, with instant results as you type.

How to use

  • • Select a category (Length, Weight, Temperature etc.)
  • • Choose the units to convert from and to
  • • Enter a value — result appears instantly

The metric system used by most of the world and the imperial system primary in the United States are incompatible in ways that cannot be solved by simple multiplication alone. Temperature conversion between Celsius and Fahrenheit requires both multiplication and addition — Fahrenheit equals Celsius times 1.8 plus 32 — making mental arithmetic unreliable.

Key conversions: 1 kilometre equals 0.621 miles. 1 kilogram equals 2.205 pounds. Water freezes at 0°C (32°F) and boils at 100°C (212°F). 1 US gallon equals 3.785 litres — note that 1 UK gallon equals 4.546 litres, a different measurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which unit categories are supported?

Length, weight, temperature, speed, area and volume are all supported with dozens of units in each category.

How accurate are the conversions?

Conversions use standard internationally accepted conversion factors and are accurate to 6 decimal places.

Why is temperature conversion different from other units?

Temperature uses offset formulas rather than simple multiplication. Celsius to Fahrenheit requires the formula F = C × 1.8 + 32, not just a multiplier.

Can I convert between metric and imperial units?

Yes. All categories include both metric and imperial units. For example length includes meters, kilometers, miles, feet, inches and yards.

Is the currency converter included here?

Currency conversion is a separate tool available in the Converters category.
