Conversion Rules
  • Symbols I, X, C and M can be repeated up to 3 times in a row.
  • V, L and D can never be repeated.
  • A smaller symbol before a larger one means subtraction (e.g. IV = 4, IX = 9).
  • A smaller symbol after a larger one means addition (e.g. VI = 6, XI = 11).
  • Only I, X and C can be used as subtractive numerals.
